Assistant Teaching Professor of Counselor Education
The Assistant Teaching Professor of Counselor Education will teach graduate counseling courses, coordinate clinical training for online master's programs, and support the department through advising, service, and collaboration with internal and external partners. This position plays a key role in maintaining high-quality clinical preparation aligned with CACREP and licensure standards.
About the Program
The NC State Counselor Education Program offers CACREP-accredited master's and doctoral degrees supported by faculty with substantial expertise in counseling practice, clinical supervision, and applied research. Since 1946, the program has been recognized for preparing highly competent professionals who serve schools, colleges, and community agencies throughout the state and beyond. Students benefit from robust clinical training, including opportunities through the Community Counseling, Education, and Research Center (CCERC). Our strong partnerships with schools and community organizations help ensure meaningful and well-supported student experiences.
Position Details
The Assistant Teaching Professor of Counselor Education will contribute to high-quality instruction, clinical coordination, student support, and program operations within the Counselor Education Program. Key Responsibilities Include:
Teach four graduate counseling courses per academic year across on-campus and online formats, including core clinical courses such as Techniques, Practicum, Internship, and Supervision Practicum.
Ensure compliance with all clinical training standards and coordinate related electronic records with the Assistant Dean for Professional Education and Accreditation.
Coordinate practicum and internship processes for online master's students, including site development, documentation management, communication with instructors and students, and supervision scheduling.
Maintain and update databases and records for clinical sites, placements, evaluations, and other required clinical documentation.
Advise and mentor students; serve on dissertation committees; and contribute to program, department, and college operations through meetings, recruitment, governance, collaboration, and integration of instructional technologies.
Required Qualifications Candidates must demonstrate the academic preparation and professional experience necessary to support high-quality teaching and clinical coordination within the Counselor Education Program. Required Qualifications Include:
Doctoral degree in Counselor Education, or a closely related field, earned by July 30, 2026. Evidence of effective teaching, advising, and supervision in counseling or counselor education settings.
Demonstrated ability to use technology effectively in teaching, communication, and service. Professional experience in counseling and a demonstrated professional identity as a counselor or counselor educator, including appropriate memberships in the field.
