Description & Details:
North Dakota State University’s Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) invites applications for a 9-month half-time benefited remote lecturer position to begin on August 16, 2026. The selected candidate will join the 15 full-time HDFS faculty in providing teaching, advising, and service to support approximately 400 undergraduate majors, 225 undergraduate minors, and 75 graduate students. The HDFS Department offers an undergraduate degree with emphases in child and adolescent development, family science, and adult development and aging, as well as dual degree collaborations with elementary education and social work. The department also offers master’s degrees in counseling and in HDFS with emphases in family financial planning, gerontology, and youth development, as well as doctoral degrees in developmental science and counselor education and supervision. The HDFS Department is dedicated to building and fostering a diverse community and strongly encourages applications from members of socially marginalized groups, broadly defined to be as inclusive as possible. Specific responsibilities include:
• Teach 4 asynchronous online courses per academic year; 2 each Fall and 2 each Spring semester • Provide academic advising for Junior and Senior HDFS majors
This position will be working fully online, with the possibility of working remotely. If working remotely, NDSU cannot employ individuals who live full-time in the following states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, RhodeIsland, Virginia, Washington DC.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Human Development & Family Science or related fields including but not limited to Family Social Science, Child, Youth & Family Studies, Couple and Family Therapy, Counseling, and Developmental Science
Teaching experience
Knowledge of different career pathways in mental health care
Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Human Development & Family Science or related fields including but not limited to Family Social Science, Child, Youth & Family Studies, Couple and Family Therapy, Counseling, and Developmental Science
Experience teaching online in higher education
Experience advising and/or mentoring undergraduate students
Awards or other evidence of high-quality teaching
Awards or other evidence of high-quality advising
Experience as a mental health care provider
Professional knowledge and/or experience to teach about financial counseling
Professional knowledge and/or experience to teach about human sexuality
Professional knowledge and/or experience to teach about family diversity
