Assistant Professor of Clinical Professional Counseling

Central Connecticut State University invites applications to join the Department of Counselor Education and Family Therapy as a full-time (10-month), tenure track Assistant Professor within the Clinical Professional Counseling (CPC) program with specialized practices areas in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CACREP-accredited), Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling (CACREP-accredited), Addiction Counseling (in process of applying for CACREP-accreditation), or Gerontological Counseling. About CCSU’s Department of Counselor Education and Family Therapy
The Department of Counselor Education and Family Therapy at Central Connecticut State University prepares graduate students for professional careers in one of the following Master of Science (M.S.) degree programs: (a) Counselor Education with Specialization in Clinical Professional Counseling; (b) Counselor Education with Specialization in School Counseling; (c) Counselor Education with Specialization in Student Development in Higher Education; and (d) Marriage & Family Therapy. We are committed to developing engaged mindful learners, who promote emotional growth and social and emotional competence over their life span. Through coursework and clinical training, students have the opportunity to apply their skills in a field-based setting under close supervision. In addition, students in all M.S. degree programs are encouraged in their ongoing efforts toward self-development, self-awareness, and scholarly achievement. Position Profile
The successful candidate will teach graduate level courses in counselor education with specializations in clinical rehabilitation and clinical mental health counseling. Candidates are expected to contribute actively and effectively to student growth, service, and scholarship as well as be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body. The regular teaching load is 12-hours per academic semester with evening classes required over a 10-month contractual period.
Applicant Evaluative Criteria
Applicant profiles and supplementary materials will be evaluated for appointment based on the following:
Education:
All applicants must have an earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program, or meet one of the three remaining qualifications as described in 2024 CACREP Standards (Section 1, Standard Y.2., Y.3., Y.4, p. 6). NOTE: ABD candidates may be considered; however, completion of doctoral degree must occur no later than the end of the first academic year of appointment.
Experience and Training:
Experience in practicing clinical rehabilitation counseling and clinical mental health counseling.
Experience in teaching core counselor education courses or demonstrates the potential to teach counselor education courses at the graduate level (e.g., theory and techniques of counseling, group counseling, professional ethics, multicultural counseling, etc.).
Experience in teaching clinical rehabilitation courses or demonstrates the potential to teach clinical rehabilitation courses at the graduate level (e.g., foundations of clinical rehabilitation counseling, medical aspects of disability and rehabilitation counseling, etc.).
Experience in teaching clinical mental health counseling courses or demonstrates the potential to teach clinical mental health counseling courses at the graduate level (e.g., foundations of clinical mental health counseling, appraisal procedures in counseling, supervised clinical professional counseling practicum/internship, etc.).
Experience in providing clinical supervision to counselors-in-training or demonstrates the potential to provide clinical supervision to counselors-in-training.
Experience in developing and completing a productive research agenda in the counselor education field or demonstrates the potential to develop and complete a productive research agenda in the counselor education field.
Licensed (or license-eligible) as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Connecticut.
Credentialed (or certification-eligible) as Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) through the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC).

Ideal Candidate
Preference will be given to applicants with the following:
Experience in teaching core counselor education courses with concentrations in clinical rehabilitation counseling and clinical mental health counseling.
Experience in teaching at a higher education institution.
Experience in advising, mentoring, and supervising graduate students.
Experience in program development and accreditation.
Credentialed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Connecticut.
Credentialed as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) through the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC).
