The Department of Special Education, Counseling and Student Affairs in the College of Education at Kansas State University (K-State) invites applications for an open-rank (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) professor in counselor education for the Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and Ed.S. in School Counseling programs. The position offers the successful candidate an opportunity for providing programmatic leadership in counselor education along with collaboration with award-winning colleagues and students at a Research I university.
This position is based at the main campus in Manhattan, Kansas. Must be license-eligible in Kansas as an LPC, LCPC and/or school counselor license.
Responsibilities
The position involves teaching graduate courses for Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and Ed.S. in School Counseling programs. The courses in these programs are offered via online instruction, either synchronously or asynchronously, and may incorporate supervision. Other responsibilities include engaging in research and creative endeavors, ensuring continued alignment of counseling programs with the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) standards, advising graduate students, seeking external funding, providing service, participating in faculty governance, and being involved with professional counseling organizations at the state, regional, and national levels. Worksite Options: This position is required to be performed on-site. Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment location.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
Required Qualifications:
Earned doctorate from a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education program with a demonstrated focus in clinical mental health and/or school counseling (by May 2025)
Effective written and oral communication skills, and collaboration with stakeholders
Demonstrate knowledge/experience of CACREP accreditation
Clear and discernible professional counseling identity
Commitment to working with and supporting diverse populations to achieve equity and social justice
Experience as a professional counselor (e.g., clinical mental health counseling, school counseling)
Record of university teaching and advising commensurate with rank
Experience with online instruction and advising
Experience supervising counselors and counselors in training
Record of peer-reviewed publications in counseling, counselor education, or education commensurate with rank
Record of presentations at professional counseling conferences
Active involvement in professional counseling associations
Preferred Qualifications:
Leadership experience in professional counseling associations
Experience as a program coordinator, unit director, CACREP liaison, or clinical coordinator
Experience in clinical mental health and school counseling
Established record of successful teaching and advising
Experience developing and teaching pedagogically sound online courses/advising
Experience with professional supervision and/or instruction of supervision courses (e.g., Supervision Practicum, Doctoral Practicum/Internship)
Experience teaching coursework in clinical assessment, psychopathology, and/or research methods
Record of an active agenda of research and scholarship with demonstrated success in securing external funding
