Performs complex and highly advanced managerial work providing direction and guidance to two Jack Stagg’s Counseling Clinic Sites, one on the Huntsville campus and the other on The Woodlands Center Campus. Provides counseling and human development services to members of the campus and area communities, and trains graduate students on how to effectively work with clients in counseling settings.
Directs the day-to-day operations of the Jack Stagg’s Counseling Clinic Sites. Builds, promotes, and sustains collaboration with university and community stakeholder groups to gather clients for practicum experiences, distributing clients to practica, and ensuring client care/confidentiality at both Jack Stagg’s Counseling Clinic Sites. Directs clinic support stuff and student employees. Provides outcome data for the clinic. Oversees client flow, screening, and assignments to counselors-in-training (CIT). Partners with departmental faculty for clinical support. Oversees technology used within the clinic. Trains and supports all staff and graduate practicum students in clinic protocols. Establishes protocol and procedures for operating within the clinic, following American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy rules, and departmental and Sam Houston State University (SHSU) policies (e.g., forms, confidentiality regulations). Participates and attends departmental faculty meetings and events. Responsible for the administrative duties within the two clinic sites. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Provides leadership and oversight to the Jack Stagg’s Counseling Clinic Sites. Must exhibit a high level of professionalism and maturity, executive ability, and a keen understanding of protocol. Ability to organize work effectively and prioritizes objectives. Ability to exercise discretion, excellent reasoning, and independent judgment. Skilled in directing multiple tasks, setting priorities, and organizing operations. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with administration, faculty, staff, and the public. Strong communication skills, both orally and written. Requires the critical judgment for the department, in which very serious consequences on decision-making can occur. Interprets and applies complex directives, policies, regulations, statues, and procedures, and/or written guidelines for a department or major work group. Strong knowledge in professional, ethical, and legal standards in the field of mental health. Ability to maintain individual professional liability insurance and licensing credentials.
This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
A minimum of a master’s degree, preferably in counseling or a related profession. A doctoral degree in counseling or a related profession is preferred. Knowledge of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and what that means for clinic training and the department. Five years of experience working in a clinical setting including roles involving leadership and supervision. Must have 5 years of experience working as a licensed counselor, and a currently active LPC and is LPC-S eligible and willing to get that credential within one year of starting that position OR a currently active LPC-S. Fluency in Spanish is desirable. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience. Must demonstrate strong counselor identity.
