The Salve Regina University Counseling Education and Expressive Arts Department seeks applications for a new full-time, non-tenure track counselor education faculty member. The ideal person for this position would be a professor of practice, teaching clinical rehabilitation counseling and professional mental health classes online and in-person with a disability justice focus. Salve Regina offers a 60-credit Counseling Program with two counseling tracks: an in-person Clinical Mental Health Counseling track with a focus on holism and an online Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling track.
The program's current faculty believes in education incorporating holistic perspectives and systemic understanding, including justice, equity, and multiculturalism within counselor education best practices. In addition to counseling standards, our curriculum incorporates the Mercy Sister’s Critical concerns: anti-racism, the earth, non-violence, women’s issues, and immigration. We strive to ensure that all faculty engage effectively with important philosophies/discourses that support equity-based perspectives. Requirements:
Earned doctorate (by start date) in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program
A teaching perspective that is grounded in rehabilitation and mental health counseling
Andragogy that integrates the University's Five Critical Concerns as they relate to mental health counseling (immigration, anti-racism, women and gender, non-violence, and the earth), equity, multiculturalism, holism, or systemic injustice
An ability to teach both online and in-person
The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements in the U.S. at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue to work legally for the proposed term of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
A Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) or eligible to become certified
Experience working as a Rehabilitation Counselor
Evidence of counseling, supervision, and teaching experience in Counselor Education
Interest in clinical course(s) coordination responsibilities
Be a licensed mental health counselor or license eligible in Rhode Island or have the ability to transfer the license to Rhode Island within a year
A justice-centered perspective of Counselor Education
Work experience with underserved populations
Work experience with not-for-profit or grassroot organizations that prioritize disability justice and racial equity
